News Update!

Just a little update on what is happening with my writing. I recently had a four page script accepted for an anthology called Ladies & Gentlemen put out by Water Closet Press in the UK. It is a light bit of pulp set in London featuring a character of my own creation. There is no artist attached to the script yet but I will keep you updated.

I am 60 pages into a novel and am really starting to get my writing legs going. Here’s hoping the next 200 pages go by in a flash.

I am forming an outline for a new idea I have for a comic book character that features rock ‘n’ roll, Norse mythology and supernatural mysteries. It is in the infant stages and may wait to get fleshed out more when I find a dedicated artist to collaborate with. It can join the handful of other ideas I have for comic book series.

I have been seriously considering placing my movie script Deadington in The Black List database. It doesn’t cost a lot and I feel it really is a good script. Will let you know what I decide to do.

Will soon be adding more links to blogs and other pages I think are cool. Check the space over to the side to find them.

That’s all for now.

Another One Bites the Dust

Another year gone and a new one just begun. Last year I was able to complete my movie screenplay Deadington. It was my first completed screenplay and I feel I learned a lot during the process. I also think it happens to be a pretty good script. Hopefully, someone else will think so as well.
I started a new novel and will continue to work on that this year. Finishing the novel is my main goal of the year and I feel that it is an attainable one. Maybe I can also find an artist to work with on a comic book this year as well, why not shoot for the moon.
I also will try to post some more on this blog. I just need to decide what it is I am going to post. My life is obviously not exciting enough to warrant frequent posts about it. I will continue to post news and new pieces of writing as they happen and am grateful for anyone out there that takes the time to read my scratchings and scribblings. May the new year hold good tidings to you all.

Marching On

Got word that my script Deadington did not make the quarter-finals in the Scriptapalooza contest. I am not devastated, but it certainly would have been nice to place. I will soldier on. I’m sure that I’ll continue to tinker with and fine tune Deadington while I am writing my second script. I am reminded of the words of Calvin Coolidge “Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.”

In that vein, I present the current logline for Shoot the Devil:

A hunchback hitman takes a job to kill the devil and with the help of a ray gun, a tag-a-long and an angel, he just may succeed, but does he want to?

The Devil and The Hunchback

What have I been up to? Waiting on word regarding my script Deadington. I submitted it to the Scriptapalozza contest and will find out if I am a quarter finalist late July. I am planning on posting part or all of the Deadington script on the site soon (unless it wins top prize and is sold, of course).

I am writing my second script called Shoot the Devil. I will be posting a tentative logline soon. It is about a hunchback hitman hired to kill the Devil. It has been going slower than I would like but should pick up after this month when I am finished packing and moving to a new residence.

I have been doing some thinking lately and believe that my next scripts will be written for a younger or family audience. I think I could write movies that fit comfortably in the Disney style. It won’t be a dramatic shift for me since my other scripts are by no means vulgar or anything. I try to keep within a PG-13 rating anyway. I enjoy writing kid characters and their wonder of the world around them. Don’t worry, monsters will still show up.

Newsflash!

I am still alive. Now that we have that out of the way…a few things have happened since my last post. I did indeed attempt to start a web comic strip but it did not go as planned. I found that my artistic skills are such that I can make a mean sketch of an idea but cannot for the life of me stick the landing with a polished and finished drawing that I am proud of. I am that I am and that’s all that I am; a writer. That’s not a bad thing.

I have pretty much finished my screenplay Deadington and plan on submitting it to a screenplay contest within weeks. Wish me luck. In the meantime I am hard at work outlining a new screenplay from an idea that I have had for a long time. Its a great concept and, since I have heard that concept is king in Hollywood, it should do well.

Planet Comicon is about to hit Kansas City this weekend and so I have prepared a few script samples and proposals in hopes of finding an artist to help give my creations life. It can only help me that an editor from Marvel will be there this year to review portfolios. I can stand near his table and grab the cast-offs. No artist refuses someone a look at their portfolio.

That’s all for now. Will try to keep in touch more but you can see how that has gone in the past.

Anyone Still Out There?

I am sorry that I haven’t been posting more often. Not much news to relate. I am still revising my Deadington movie script but it is really close to being finished. I would like to have a consultant look it over before entering any contests but may not have the luxury of time or money to do so.
In related news; I have started a group on Bigtent called Screenwriters and Authors Guild, Aghast!

If you have any interest in writing and want a critique group than join up.
Will probably start work on another screenplay soon but not sure which idea to go with. I was toying with starting a web comic strip but still not certain I have the talent in me to do so. I will keep you updated…somewhat…well, I’ll at least try and do better than I have. Don’t hold me to it.

Log Lines and Short Lines

I am still revising my Deadington screenplay but had to pause to come up with a log line for the story. A log line is a short and sweet summary of the story usually used as an elevator pitch to a producer or sign post to a reader to let them know what kind of story they are in for. It is a lot harder to do then you would think. I had some help from folks at Go Into The Story to come up with what I know have. Let me know what you think. Any producers, managers or agents out there, feel free to drop me a line and as they say in Hollywood; we’ll do lunch.

A wayward Frankenstein’s monster moonlighting as a getaway driver, decides to go straight after connecting with his young kidnap victim and with help from a U.S. Marshal and a ghost, struggles to defeat his old partner Dracula and save his own immortal soul.

MAD!

Thought I was angry about something, didn’t you? In fact its just the opposite. Marvel announced today that Joe Mad will be drawing a new Spiderman comic called The Avenging Spiderman in November. I can’t wait. I know some are put off by Joe’s style but I love it and always wondered if he would ever be back at Marvel again. That he is on a Spiderman book is icing on the cake.

I am wrapping up the Deadington script. It is taking longer than I thought as I add more scenes that just need to be there. The story is certainly going places that I never thought it would. Cool.

Once the Deadington script is in the reading and revising stages I will also be polishing Count Obsideo for a new comic book pitch. We’re talking space action and monsters galore. Goodbye Earth.

Will also be writing another 5 page sample for writers to try out on that will be different in tone then the Spiderman one I have posted already. That’s all for now.

Where Wolf?

If you supported my Kickstarter project to publish I Wish I Was a Werewolf then you probably already know the project did not meet the goal. I thank you all for your encouraging words and pledges. This is not the end.

I am finishing up the second draft of Deadington and will be sending it to a select few of readers soon. I can’t wait to start getting feedback.

I have a few other projects stewing as we speak so I will keep you updated. I know I have been horrible about updating this blog and will once more attempt to post more frequently. Hope all of you are doing well.

Update

Yeah. So…I haven’t posted in a while so here it goes. Not a whole lot happening. I am still working on the second draft of the Deadington movie script. Would love to make it a comic book as well if I have any takers.

I will be posting very soon with a link to a Kickstarter account where you can support my children’s book I Wish I Was a Werewolf being created. Please donate. I promise my creation won’t break through the walls and terrorize the countryside…this time.

Still have a comic book idea and comic strip on the back burner. PlanetComicon is coming up soon and with any luck I can make a connection to an artist or two. Wish me luck. If past cons are any indication than I will certainly need it.

Is it a new year already?

Happy new year everyone! I don’t have a lot of new news for you. I am working on the second draft of the Deadington movie script and it’s coming along nicely. I am also in the beginning stages of self-publishing a children’s story so look for more info in the immediate future. I have already found a splendid artist to illustrate the picture book and plan on funding it through Kickstarter. Once the Kickstarter campaign begins I will need all of your help out there to spread the word. Flex your social bug muscles.
