Anyone Still Out There?

I am sorry that I haven’t been posting more often. Not much news to relate. I am still revising my Deadington movie script but it is really close to being finished. I would like to have a consultant look it over before entering any contests but may not have the luxury of time or money to do so.
In related news; I have started a group on Bigtent called Screenwriters and Authors Guild, Aghast!

If you have any interest in writing and want a critique group than join up.
Will probably start work on another screenplay soon but not sure which idea to go with. I was toying with starting a web comic strip but still not certain I have the talent in me to do so. I will keep you updated…somewhat…well, I’ll at least try and do better than I have. Don’t hold me to it.

Log Lines and Short Lines

I am still revising my Deadington screenplay but had to pause to come up with a log line for the story. A log line is a short and sweet summary of the story usually used as an elevator pitch to a producer or sign post to a reader to let them know what kind of story they are in for. It is a lot harder to do then you would think. I had some help from folks at Go Into The Story to come up with what I know have. Let me know what you think. Any producers, managers or agents out there, feel free to drop me a line and as they say in Hollywood; we’ll do lunch.

A wayward Frankenstein’s monster moonlighting as a getaway driver, decides to go straight after connecting with his young kidnap victim and with help from a U.S. Marshal and a ghost, struggles to defeat his old partner Dracula and save his own immortal soul.

Return of the Artist

Bet you didn’t think I would post in July, eh?

Deadington is now being read by a handful of friends so I can gain their comments and critiques to help shape future drafts. I’ve already received input from some that has proven to be most helpful. I have also been working on a logline for Deadington. A logline is a one sentence description of the entire movie. Sounds easier than it actually is.

I am in the preliminary stages of possibly producing a comic strip for the web. I have been doodling and sketching more often in an attempt to flake the rust off my drawing skills. We’ll see how it goes. I will be certain to keep you updated.

If you haven’t seen the John Carter trailer then you should check it out stat. I was already a fan of the John Carter books and the movie looks wonderful. If you don’t blink you’ll catch your first look at one of the Martians.

MAD!

Thought I was angry about something, didn’t you? In fact its just the opposite. Marvel announced today that Joe Mad will be drawing a new Spiderman comic called The Avenging Spiderman in November. I can’t wait. I know some are put off by Joe’s style but I love it and always wondered if he would ever be back at Marvel again. That he is on a Spiderman book is icing on the cake.

I am wrapping up the Deadington script. It is taking longer than I thought as I add more scenes that just need to be there. The story is certainly going places that I never thought it would. Cool.

Once the Deadington script is in the reading and revising stages I will also be polishing Count Obsideo for a new comic book pitch. We’re talking space action and monsters galore. Goodbye Earth.

Will also be writing another 5 page sample for writers to try out on that will be different in tone then the Spiderman one I have posted already. That’s all for now.

Where Wolf?

If you supported my Kickstarter project to publish I Wish I Was a Werewolf then you probably already know the project did not meet the goal. I thank you all for your encouraging words and pledges. This is not the end.

I am finishing up the second draft of Deadington and will be sending it to a select few of readers soon. I can’t wait to start getting feedback.

I have a few other projects stewing as we speak so I will keep you updated. I know I have been horrible about updating this blog and will once more attempt to post more frequently. Hope all of you are doing well.

Planet Comicon

Another Planet Comicon has come and gone. While artist alley had expanded (which is nice) the dealer section seemed to have shrunk. I did get a few good deals though; Guardians of the Galaxy hardcover, Captain America hardcover and the Frankencastle hardcover signed by Mr. Moore of course. It is always nice to chat with Chris Grine of Chickenhare fame. He’s a real nice guy with a genuinely great web comic.

I wasn’t able to get any sketches this time but really wanted one from Fransisco Franciavelli (probably mangled his name). The Comic Book Geek Speak guys were there but I couldn’t work up the courage to talk to them. This after trying to get Chris to go talk with them I know, I am so ashamed.

Over all it was a good time. I brought my 3 year old daughter to the con on Sunday and she had a blast. Her very first convention! I will have to be sure to bring her on Saturday next time because there were more costumed characters and she wanted to get her picture taken with all the super-heroes.

Hopefully next year I will be behind a table promoting my children’s picture book or web comic. If not, I am thinking of buying a table just to search for an artist to work with. Hey, it couldn’t hurt right?

Update

Yeah. So…I haven’t posted in a while so here it goes. Not a whole lot happening. I am still working on the second draft of the Deadington movie script. Would love to make it a comic book as well if I have any takers.

I will be posting very soon with a link to a Kickstarter account where you can support my children’s book I Wish I Was a Werewolf being created. Please donate. I promise my creation won’t break through the walls and terrorize the countryside…this time.

Still have a comic book idea and comic strip on the back burner. PlanetComicon is coming up soon and with any luck I can make a connection to an artist or two. Wish me luck. If past cons are any indication than I will certainly need it.

Is it a new year already?

Happy new year everyone! I don’t have a lot of new news for you. I am working on the second draft of the Deadington movie script and it’s coming along nicely. I am also in the beginning stages of self-publishing a children’s story so look for more info in the immediate future. I have already found a splendid artist to illustrate the picture book and plan on funding it through Kickstarter. Once the Kickstarter campaign begins I will need all of your help out there to spread the word. Flex your social bug muscles.

Begin Again

I finally finished the first draft of the Deadington movie script. Let me bask in the glow of accomplishment. OK. That was long enough. Don’t want to get too carried away here. Now on to the second draft.

Wait just a minute. This is the first time I have completed a full draft of a movie script. I have certainly attempted to finish a first draft before but for whatever reason, I was unable to stick the landing. I think the key difference this time was that I kept the stakes and the setting relatively small. Mental note to leave the world altering fate of millions in the balance stories to someone else…for now.

Tron Night

Just a quick post to say I attended Tron Night at the local 3D IMAX. I was very impressed with the scenes from Tron Legacy that I saw and can’t wait to see the whole thing in December (3D is not a must though). I was a bit surprised that the theater wasn’t close to being full. Maybe Tron is more of a niche then Disney thought.
