The Velvet Ace

PAGE ONE

Panel 1- London. 1946. The Velvet Ace is on a rooftop taking cover behind a broad chimney. Her pistol is drawn. She is dressed like a WW2 fighter pilot in a leather bomber jacket and helmet with goggles up on her brow. Her long sandy blonde hair flows out from behind and under the helmet. A blue scarf hugs her neck.

CAPTION

I wonder if they have run out of bullets.

Panel 2- Close up of The Velvet Ace’s head and shoulders as she takes a peek around the chimney.

Panel 3- Two men dressed in the clothes of the day but with full helmets shaped like vulture heads (complete with feathered collar). If a helmet is not feasible then perhaps a mask that looks from the time period.  The vulture men are firing STEN SMG sub-machine guns directly at the reader (and The Velvet Ace). One of the men has a satchel slung across his shoulder. The satchel is filled with sterling bank notes (reader may not be able to tell).

Panel 4- The Velvet Ace crouches back behind the chimney.

CAPTION

Cripes. Guess not.

Panel 5- The vulture men take a pause in firing at The Velvet Ace.

VULTURE MAN 1

Let’s fly.

PAGE TWO

Panel 1- Close up of The Velvet Ace’s boot as she leaves the cover the chimney provides.

Panel 2- Large panel of The Velvet Ace rushing straight at the reader (and the vulture men). Her goggles are down over her eyes now. With a wave of her arm and a few magic words, she turns the bullets being fired at her into harmless flowers (daisies) that float and fall all around her.

CAPTION

I much prefer daisies.

Panel 3- The Velvet Ace throws her shoulder into the nearest vulture man, sending him sprawling off panel.

CAPTION

Hex thought that was a worthless spell.

Panel 4- The Velvet Ace crouches to her knee and fires her pistol at the other vulture man who is carrying the satchel of bank notes in the foreground of the panel. The shot hits the vulture man in the knee.

SFX

BLAMM.

PAGE THREE

Panel 1- The vulture man that The Velvet Ace shoved is now hanging onto the edge of the rooftop with one hand as he hangs precariously along the side of the building. He is no longer holding his gun.

Panel 2- The Velvet Ace stands at the edge of the rooftop and looks down at the vulture man. Only the man’s hand griping the edge near The Velvet Ace’s boots is visible, the rest of the man is off panel.

THE VELVET ACE

Somehow, I don’t think you’re going to fly.

Panel 3- The Velvet Ace leans down to grab the man’s hand and help him up.

THE VELVET ACE

Grab my hand and I’ll pull you up.

Panel 4- Looking down at the vulture man as he now has a large curved knife in his free hand.

VULTURE MAN 1

The Wake will gather for the carrion.

Panel 5- Close up of The Velvet Ace’s hands grab the vulture man’s hand.

AAEEIIIII!!

Panel 6- Thin panel showing the silhouette of the vulture man falling.

PAGE FOUR

Panel 1- The Velvet Ace is holding the vulture man’s hand but the rest of the man is missing. It looks like the man hacked his own hand off to fall to his death. The Velvet Ace is stone-faced. This kind of violence doesn’t seem to faze her.

THE VELVET ACE

Gross.

Panel 2- Only the Velvet Ace’s head and shoulders are in the panel. She turns her head to look at the other vulture man who is off panel. She has a feeling something has happened to him as well.

Panel 3- The Velvet Ace is now crouching next to the other vulture man, her goggles back up on her brow. This man has taken a curved knife and plunged it into his own heart. His hand still grips the blade.

Panel 4- Close up of The Velvet Ace’s hand picking up the satchel.

THE VELVET ACE

The Bank of England will be glad to have this returned. Shame about the buzzards.

Panel 5- Further away view of The Velvet Ace running along the rooftop, carrying the satchel of bank notes.

CAPTION

I’ll see if The Gent knows anything about this Wake business tomorrow. Tonight I’m flying high.

Panel 6- Close up of the vulture man’s mask. This is the man she left on the roof. A small white piece of paper is pinned to the man’s collar. The paper has a mark on it as if someone with lipstick kissed it.
