The Loch Ness Monster
In a dark Scottish lake lives the elusive beast known as the Loch Ness monster. Witnesses describe a large creature with a long neck, horse-like face and long body. Some say this is a Plesiosaurus dinosaur, others a water serpent, or simply a large unknown fish. Whatever it may be, it’s appeal as a monster is undeniable, thus it was even named Nessie.
There are almost as many blurry pictures of Nessie as there are of Bigfoot. I tend to think of Nessie as a gentle monster, but who knows, could be ferocious. In Steve Alten’s book titled simply Loch, there are many creatures in the loch that people see as the monster and they have very sharp teeth, not very nice. It’s a great book that I recommend if you are interested in monsters and Nessie legend in particular. Hope they make a move of it one day.
The idea of an unknown beast or creature somewhere out in the world as strange as Nessie is comforting to me for some reason. It gives the world a bit of magic I guess. I hope that the mystery of the Loch Monster is never solidly revealed as a nothing burger, so I can keep the magic alive.
